THE HISTORY
Vacant House is Writer/Director Jeremy Casper’s first feature film. The story was originally written as a short film, but after joining with Writer/Actor Cris Cunningham and Director of Photography Thomas McCarty, the three decided to expand the original story idea into a feature length film. Shot over the course of three summers, Vacant House serves as an example of what filmmakers can do with a good story, limited resources, and a lot of “outside the box” thinking.
THE STORY
Cameron Matthews (Cris Cunningham), a fugitive from the law, escapes from prison to search for the lost body of his uncle Rusty (TJ Maxwell), a man who died while on an expedition in the wilderness. After being shot during his escape, Cameron takes refuge in an old, dilapidated house. There he discovers the skeletal remains of Bart, the owner of the house – a man whose death has gone unnoticed by family and society for nearly four years. While laying low at Bart’s house, Cameron rummages through old letters and discovers that Bart had a tumultuous relationship with his son. Cameron takes it upon himself to bring these two men back together again, and in the process begins to heal from a broken relationship with his own father.
